Creating a Virtual Circuit Interface (VCI)

A Virtual Circuit Interface (VCI) is a function equivalent to a virtual network (VLAN) used between your equipment and OCX equipment. It serves as a connection interface that can be configured after creating an Endpoint (*1).

This page explains how to create a VCI using the OCX Portal. *1 Endpoint: A Physical Port or a LAG Port.

Notes

  • Ensure that the VLAN ID assigned to the VCI is unique within the Endpoint it is being associated with.
  • You do not need to worry about VLAN ID overlaps with other customers.
  • The maximum number of VCIs that can be created per Endpoint is 255. It is not possible to create more than this limit.

Preparation

Please confirm the following before creating a VCI:

  1. Your User Role is either admin or user.
  2. The status of the target Endpoint is available.

Procedure for Creating a Virtual Circuit Interface (VCI)

  1. Log in to the OCX Portal.
  2. Click [Virtual Circuit Interfaces (VCIs)] from the left navigation bar.
  3. On the Virtual Circuit Interfaces list page, click [Create].
  4. The information entry screen will appear. Fill in the following items and click [Create]. Items marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
  • Name *

    • Enter an arbitrary name. If you are creating multiple VCIs, using names that are easy to identify will simplify management.
    • Maximum length: 40 characters.
    • Leading and trailing whitespaces are automatically removed.
  • VLAN ID *

    • Specify an arbitrary number between 2 and 4000. We recommend designing and confirming these IDs in advance by checking the VLAN IDs used on your on-premises side, other site VCIs, and Cloud Connections.
  • Speed (Bandwidth) *

    • Select from 1 to 10 Gbps. It is possible to purchase a bandwidth that exceeds the physical bandwidth of the Endpoint (over-commitment).
  • Endpoint *

    • Select a pre-created Endpoint (Physical Port or LAG Port).
  • Untagged

    • By enabling "Untagged," the interface can function as an access port that does not require VLAN tags. However, only one VCI per Endpoint can be set as Untagged.
    • It is possible to mix Untagged and tagged VCIs within a single Endpoint. In this case, the Untagged VCI is treated as the Native VLAN on the OCX equipment. Please ensure your equipment is correctly configured to handle the Native VLAN and other tagged VLANs.
  1. A [Confirm Creation] pop-up will appear. Review the estimated costs and click [Create].
  2. You will be returned to the Virtual Circuit Interfaces list page. Confirm that the status of the new VCI is available. Additionally, confirm that the status billing pending is displayed, indicating the grace period before billing starts.

This completes the creation of the Virtual Circuit Interface (VCI).

Remarks

  • If you decommission (delete) the VCI within 72 hours of creation, the billing will be canceled. For deletion procedures, refer to this page.
  • For billing details, please refer to the VCI Pricing Structure.
