Inter-Area Virtual Circuit (IAVC) Overview

By selecting two different areas during the creation of a Virtual Circuit (VC), communication between sites spanning different areas becomes possible. This type of VC is called an Inter-Area Virtual Circuit (IAVC).

This page provides an overview of IAVC.

How IAVC Works

An IAVC is a VC designed to connect different geographical areas, such as Japan and Singapore.

When attaching resources to a VC, only those resources with interfaces located in the areas selected at the time of the VC's creation can be attached. The area for VCI and Cloud Connection interfaces is determined based on the following:

  • VCI
    • The area is determined by the site (Data Center) of the associated Physical Port or LAG Port. For details, please refer to the Site List.
  • Cloud Connection

Note: Currently, all other resources are only available in the Japan area.

Usage Example: Connecting Japan and Singapore

By attaching the following resources to an IAVC with both Japan and Singapore areas selected, you can achieve cross-area communication:

  • Japan Side: Attach a VCI associated with a Physical Port in a Japanese data center.
  • Singapore Side: Attach a Cloud Connection that has a connection point in Singapore.

Area List

The currently supported areas are as follows. To use cross-area communication, you must use an IAVC with two areas selected.

  • Japan
  • Thailand
  • Singapore

Pricing

While a VC with a single area is free of charge, usage of an IAVC with two areas incurs a fee. For details regarding billing, please refer to the VC Pricing Structure.

Note: All VCs created before September 24, 2025, are treated as having only the Japan area selected, and no fees will be incurred for them.
